Introduction

Otter ("we," "our," or "us") is a period tracking application developed by Şükrü Ünal. We are committed to protecting your privacy and have designed Otter with a privacy-first approach. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application.

Our Core Privacy Principle: Your health data stays on your device. We do not collect, store, or have access to your personal health information on any external servers.

Information We Collect

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

All of the following data is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

Cycle & Period Data

  • Period start and end dates
  • Cycle length and period length
  • Period history and patterns

Daily Wellness Logs

  • Symptoms (such as cramps, headaches, fatigue, bloating, etc.)
  • Mood entries (such as calm, happy, anxious, etc.)
  • Energy levels
  • Flow intensity
  • Personal journal entries
  • Custom tags

App Preferences

  • Language preference
  • Notification and reminder settings
  • Onboarding responses (tracking goals, cycle regularity)

Information Shared with Third Parties

Subscription Management (Superwall)

If you choose to subscribe to Otter Premium, we use Superwall to manage subscriptions. Superwall may receive:

  • Subscription status (active or inactive)
  • Purchase transaction information
  • Device identifiers required for subscription management

Superwall does NOT have access to any of your health data, period tracking information, or personal journal entries. For more information about how Superwall handles data, please visit their privacy policy at https://superwall.com/privacy.

App Store Purchases

Premium subscriptions are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store. These platforms handle payment processing according to their own privacy policies. We do not receive or store your payment information.

Device Permissions

Otter may request the following permissions:

  • Notifications: To send you period reminders and wellness notifications that you configure
  • File Access: To create and restore backup files (Premium feature)

How We Use Your Information

Since your health data is stored locally on your device, all data processing happens on your device:

  • Cycle Predictions: Calculated locally based on your period history
  • Insights & Patterns: Generated on your device from your logged data
  • Reminders: Scheduled locally on your device
  • Widgets (iOS): Data is shared only within your device's secure App Group storage

We do not:

  • Transmit your health data to external servers
  • Use your data for advertising purposes
  • Sell your personal information to third parties
  • Track your behavior across other apps or websites

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

Your data is stored on your device using MMKV, an encrypted key-value storage system. This means:

  • Your data is encrypted on your device
  • Only you have access to your data
  • Your data remains on your device unless you choose to export it

Backups (Premium Feature)

You can create encrypted backup files of your data. These backups:

  • Are stored locally on your device
  • Can be exported to your personal cloud storage (iCloud, Google Drive, etc.) at your discretion
  • Are protected with checksums to ensure data integrity
  • Are never automatically uploaded to our servers

Your Rights and Choices

Access Your Data

All your data is stored on your device and accessible within the app at any time.

Delete Your Data

You can delete all your data at any time through Settings > Clear All Data. This permanently removes all stored information from your device.

Export Your Data

Premium users can export their data as backup files or PDF reports, giving you full portability of your information.

Control Notifications

You can enable, disable, or customize all notifications through the app settings.

For Users in the European Union (GDPR)

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data (available directly in the app)
  • Rectify inaccurate data (edit your entries anytime)
  • Erase your data ("Clear All Data" in settings)
  • Data portability (export/backup features)
  • Object to processing (you control all local processing)

For Users in California (CCPA)

You have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected (detailed above)
  • Delete your personal information ("Clear All Data" in settings)
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

Note: We do not sell personal information to third parties.

Children's Privacy

Otter is intended for users who are 13 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@dsapps.io.

Data Retention

Your data is retained on your device until you choose to delete it. We do not retain any copies of your health data on external servers. If you uninstall the app, your locally stored data will be deleted from your device.

International Data Transfers

Since your health data is stored locally on your device and not transmitted to external servers, there are no international transfers of your health information. Subscription-related data processed by Superwall and app stores may be subject to their respective data transfer policies.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the app and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
